Yoga and Ayurveda

Dr. David Frawley (Pandit Vamadeva Shastri) D. Litt., western born teacher or guru in the Vedic tradition. In India, Vamadeva is recognized as a Vedacharya (Vedic teacher) and includes in his unusual wide scope of studies Ayurveda, Yoga, Vedanta and Vedic astrology, as well as the ancient Vedic teachings going back to the oldest Rigveda.
Vamadeva is a recipient of the prestigious Padma Bhushan award, one of the highest civilian awards granted by the government of India, “for distinguished service of a higher order to the nation,” honoring his work and writings as a Vedic teacher, which he received in March 2015.

Dr. D. Frawley raise many interesting points in his video: https://youtu.be/3d5dsL5AYCs

He talks about the pharmaceutical mentality Versus Ayurveda.
History on how Ayurveda at one point has been mixed with the allopathic medicine, using the same principle of symptoms based medicine.
This explains how we see today many websites, books and articles often giving an Ayurvedic solution {medicine} to symptoms, which is an Allopathic medicine approach, not an Ayurvedic approach and how society has taken away the elements of spirituality, yoga, meditation, etc.
Dr. David Frawley explains the difference between System of medicine supposed to treatment medicine.
The yogic system of medicine recognizes the human being not limited to the Physical body, Ayurveda is the recognized Yogic medicine system.
Ayurveda represents traditionally, the whole Yogic sadhana practice for the body and mind.
There are ancient texts that give full information on herbs, diet, water, food massage and their effects, a principle of nutrition.
In Ayurveda there are treatments too, however, treatment is a secondary factor, the primary factor is the lifestyle. {Which is what we are studying here at Yoga Veda Institute}.
Our lifestyle is the main factor behind our health, happiness, and prevention of disease.
Modern medicine, for example, look at behavior medicine (pharmaceutical solution) to change behavior patterns, including depression.
Ayurveda considers lifestyle a factor to prevent behavior patterns.

This video is a great teacher of what is happening today to people around us, to us, through an Ayurvedic view.
"You let people get into your mind that you wouldn't let into your home".
The world is slowly changing and turning back to meditation, yoga, Ayurveda because the allopathic medicine is not enough.

Yoga is more than asana, is Yamas and Niyamas, is Darmic value, is pranayama as a healing practice.
There is a medical crisis, increased diabetes, heart diseases, neurological problems, depression. Why is this happening, will all the drugs, all the wealth, all the science that is available to us?
Some people simplistically think that eating vegetarian, or Indian food {I have heard it so many times: Indian food is naturally healthy} is equivalent to healthy balanced diet.Actually a vegetarian, or even vegan diet is not necessary an Ayurvedic diet, the same as Yogic diet has different requirement and more restricted then a general Ayurvedic diet.

Dr. Frawley makes many important points to pay attention to.
